True story:
Last week I signed up for a free workshop led by one of the main stage speaker’s at the National Speaker’s Association Thrive conference—Larry Long Jr.
I wasn’t able to go to Thrive, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to get into a (Zoom) room with him and other professional speakers.
Then, I f-d up.
Well, I blame Eventbrite, but I should have double-checked the automatic invite it put on my calendar.
I showed up 1 minute past what I thought was the start time to see a “Questions” slide on the screen. That’s when I realized I missed the whole thing.
I checked my email again, and saw the time zone error.
Luckily, another speaker friend of mine was in the session and introduced me to the small group.
Then, something unexpected happened…
Even though I was late and missed the entire presentation, I ended up getting 1:1 time with Larry Long Jr. myself!
With a LinkedIn following of over 43,000 and being a well-connected speaker in the industry, this ended up working out pretty well for me.
He gave me feedback on my LinkedIn, and then I was actually able to help him too.
Moral of the story is: Show up.
Opportunity goes where you go as long as you go somewhere.
I see this in so many speakers.
They make small tweaks to the wording on their website or update their LinkedIn headline—but they really need to build connections.
And a great way to build those connections is by solving problems for the people you want to work with. Get into those rooms and show off your expertise. And create systems to do it when you’re busy (or sleeping).
That’s what I help my clients with.
If you’re stuck in the cycle of small tweaks, then you’ll want to book a Free Consultation with me.
In 45 minutes, we’ll go through your business to find where you can improve your efforts to find your ideal clients and build those connections.
