You gotta focus on the 3%

Last fall I took a big leap:

I quit my corporate job to go all-in on my own email marketing business.

My business and I went through our honeymoon phase of having lots of virtual chats, in-person networking, and content posting.

The result?

A less than stellar bank account 🙃

I was doing all the right things, right?

  • Having conversations with “potential” clients
  • Networking across the cities
  • Feeding the algorithms content to share

But I was reminded of the Buyer’s Pyramid:

  • Only about 3% of people want what you’re selling right now.
  • 6-7% of people are open to what you’re selling, but don’t feel the need to take action right now.
  • 60% is mixed with people who won’t be ready for awhile or likely will never be ready (but might know somebody).
  • And 30% are people who will just never buy from you for one reason or another.

So I started doing more direct outreach.

When you got bills to pay, you gotta focus on the 3%.

When you got some wiggle room, then it’s easier to focus on the 67% (I let the 30% who will never buy go).

And with all of this direct outreach, you know what happened?

  • I got rejected
  • I got ignored
  • But I also got sales calls when I hit those 3% or 6-7% people!

Moral of the story:

As you build your business, you’re going to have to do a lot more outreach and nurturing than you think (especially if you’re selling something over $1,000).

When you get knocked down, pick yourself up, brush off your knees, take a deep breath, and remind yourself why you got in the game in the first place.

I know I took the leap to take control of my future, provide for my family in a way a working for someone else couldn’t, all while enjoying life more each day.

What’s your why? Hit reply and let me know, I’d love to hear it!

Take care,
