Last fall I took a big leap:
I quit my corporate job to go all-in on my own email marketing business.
My business and I went through our honeymoon phase of having lots of virtual chats, in-person networking, and content posting.
The result?
A less than stellar bank account đ
I was doing all the right things, right?
- Having conversations with âpotentialâ clients
- Networking across the cities
- Feeding the algorithms content to share
But I was reminded of the Buyerâs Pyramid:
- Only about 3% of people want what youâre selling right now.
- 6-7% of people are open to what youâre selling, but donât feel the need to take action right now.
- 60% is mixed with people who wonât be ready for awhile or likely will never be ready (but might know somebody).
- And 30% are people who will just never buy from you for one reason or another.
So I started doing more direct outreach.
When you got bills to pay, you gotta focus on the 3%.
When you got some wiggle room, then itâs easier to focus on the 67% (I let the 30% who will never buy go).
And with all of this direct outreach, you know what happened?
- I got rejected
- I got ignored
- But I also got sales calls when I hit those 3% or 6-7% people!
Moral of the story:
As you build your business, youâre going to have to do a lot more outreach and nurturing than you think (especially if youâre selling something over $1,000).
When you get knocked down, pick yourself up, brush off your knees, take a deep breath, and remind yourself why you got in the game in the first place.
I know I took the leap to take control of my future, provide for my family in a way a working for someone else couldnât, all while enjoying life more each day.
Whatâs your why? Hit reply and let me know, Iâd love to hear it!
